What does Pismo Beach share with Cape Cod, Prince Edward Island and coastal Maine? World-class clamming. The Pismo Clam is one of the largest types of clams found along the Pacific Coast, and can grow up to seven inches in diameter (that is, if not "clammed out" by hungry clammers and sea otters). Some visitors still clam here, but few can bag their limit of ten clams per day. Several giant (painted cement) clams around town offer an "only in Pismo Beach" photo opportunity. Have you ever seen a "Thanksgiving" or "Halloween" clam? Come to Pismo. Each October, the city hosts its annual Clam Festival. A parade down Main Street, carnival, clam dig, music and the Famous Clam Chowder Cook-Off are highlights. Fresh chowder tastings on the pier are in the "can't miss" category.

Families love Pismo. It's the perfect seaside destination for kids (and their parents, grandparents and pets). In addition to some of the best beachfront hotel values found anywhere on the California coast, Pismo's laid-back, relaxed lifestyle and activities like clamming, fishing from the famous 1,200-foot Pismo Pier, bowling at the retro Pismo Bowl, and tide pooling along Pismo's 23 miles of white-sand beach are all great answers to that timeless question, "What are we going to do today?".

Parents, grandparents, couples, guys and gals love it too. Active adventures such as sea kayaking, surfing, cycling, and rollerblading, horseback riding, and volleyball are on the Pismo Beach agenda. A local favorite is spinning the wheels of an ATV up and down Pismo Beach's eight miles of toweringPismo Beach sand dunes. That's right! Pismo Beach has the only drivable beach in California - Oceano Dunes State Recreational Vehicle Area. One can even hire a Hummer for a sandy assault. As the sun sets into a sparkling ocean, it's the end of another perfect day in the California Countryside. And yet, there's a way to make it even better: by dining at one of Pismo Beach's fantastic fresh-catch seafood,Pismo Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau steakhouse, Italian, Mexican or continental restaurants. And staying the night, to start over in the morning.

Pismo Beach is a natural Pacific destination that, while not as flashy or as bustling as some of its California coastal neighbors, nonetheless delivers an incredible vacation experience. The Pismo Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau has a detailed Web site filled with up-to-date visitor information (it even lists tidal conditions!); see the Info Box for contact details.
